Bringing Color Into the Heart of the Home

When designing kitchens, color is often where everything comes to life. It’s what sets the tone for the way a space feels. Whether homeowners are looking for warmth, contrast, or a subtle touch of personality, the right hue can transform cabinetry from functional storage into the focal point of the room.

Historically color takes a backseat in kitchen design and is used as an accent, or to highlight a small area. At Palmer-Donavin, we’ve seen a growing trend toward incorporating color in bold and thoughtful ways. Neutral whites and grays remain timeless, but more homeowners are ready to take that next step—adding color that still feels natural and livable.

That’s where our palette of Admiral, Rosemary, and Hammock comes in.

Admiral, a deep navy, adds sophistication and depth. It’s perfect for grounding an island or pairing with lighter wall cabinets to create balance. It’s a color that feels rich without being overpowering, offering a modern twist on classic blue. Pro Tip: If you are worried about dark colors in a small space, using a lighter color countertop will help reflect light back into the room.

Hammock is a neutral wood tone and the definition of warmth done right. It’s a soft, blond hue that brings a touch of organic texture and light to any space—without the orange or yellow undertones that can overpower other stains. Hammock pairs beautifully with both painted finishes and natural materials, creating that inviting, lived-in feel so many homeowners are after.

And now, we’re excited to introduce our newest color: Rosemary. Inspired by the calming greens of nature, Rosemary strikes the perfect balance between earthy and elegant. It’s subtle enough to feel timeless but distinctive enough to make a statement. Homeowners and remodelers alike are fully embracing Rosemary as the main finish on a full kitchen, as it brings freshness and serenity into the space.  Adding a darker countertop, like soapstone or a matte black with simple veining, can create a more dramatic or moody look. While adding a neutral or white countertop can lean toward a simpler and more classic feel.

Together, these finishes—Admiral, Rosemary, and Hammock—offer endless opportunities for designers and homeowners alike to express personality while maintaining harmony in the home. Along with a wide range of sizes and upgraded construction, like plywood cabinet boxes and soft close doors and drawers, our Woodward line offers something for everyone.

As a designer, I want our clients to feel comfortable and at home in their kitchen. I encourage them to not focus on the influences of others, but to make decisions that feel right for them. And with this palette, every project can feel grounded, welcoming, and beautifully balanced.
