Grow With Us: Three Pathways to Build Your Career at Palmer-Donavin
At Palmer-Donavin, career growth is not limited to one department, one background, or one path.
We have employees building careers in sales, operations, transportation, customer service, production, distribution, and many other areas of the business. Some join us early in their careers. Others grow into new opportunities after gaining experience inside the company.
That is one of the advantages of being an employee-owned company. We are not just filling jobs. We are building long-term careers with people who have a direct stake in the success of the business.
With that in mind, I would like to highlight three structured career pathways available at Palmer-Donavin.
Sales Development Program
Sales is at the heart of what we do at Palmer-Donavin.
Our Sales Development Program is designed to prepare participants for a career in outside sales. The program provides a structured ramp into the role by helping participants understand our business model, products, customers, systems, and processes.
Participants gain exposure to both our distribution and manufacturing divisions. They spend time learning product knowledge, inside sales, customer communication, pricing, purchasing, credit, operations, and the Palmer-Donavin approach to selling.
The goal is not only to teach someone how to sell. The goal is to help them understand how the business works, how we serve our customers, and how strong relationships are built over time.
Outside sales requires product knowledge, customer trust, follow-through, and the ability to solve problems. This program gives participants the foundation they need to step into that responsibility.
Operations Leadership Development Program
Our profitability is dependent on our ability to execute at a high level. Staffing the organization with exceptional operations leaders is a fundamental part of our strategy. Our Operations Leadership Development Program is designed to prepare participants for leadership roles within our distribution and door fabrication operations. The program provides an immersive, cross-functional experience with hands-on exposure to the work that drives our business every day.
Participants spend time learning our products, systems, processes, customers, and operational expectations. They also work with leaders across the company, participate in cross-functional projects, review business data, and complete a capstone project that is presented to leadership.
This program is built around both technical understanding and leadership development.
Strong operations leaders need to understand workflow, inventory, quality, safety, people leadership, and execution. They also need to know how decisions made in one part of the business impact another.
The Operations Leadership Development Program gives participants the opportunity to see the business from multiple angles before moving into an operations leadership role.
Class A CDL Driver Apprentice Program
Our transportation team plays an important role in the customer experience.
The Class A CDL Driver Apprentice Program was created to help current employees advance their careers by earning a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with support from Palmer-Donavin.
The program includes classroom training, online training, hands-on practice, and behind-the-wheel experience with experienced Palmer-Donavin drivers. Apprentices learn the technical skills needed to obtain their CDL, while also learning what it takes to be a successful professional driver for our company.
This includes safety, communication, organization, customer service, and care for equipment.
The program typically takes several months to complete. After earning their CDL, apprentices continue building experience through required behind-the-wheel training before moving into a full-time Class A CDL Driver role or serving as a backup driver until an opening becomes available.
This pathway is a strong example of career growth from within. It allows employees to build a new skill, increase their earning potential, and take on a critical role in serving our customers.
Why These Programs Matter
Each of these programs is different, but they serve the same purpose.
They help employees grow into roles that are important to the future of Palmer-Donavin.
Sales drives customer relationships and revenue growth. Operations ensures that products move accurately, safely, and efficiently. Transportation delivers on the commitments we make to our customers.
These areas are connected. When they work well together, our customers feel the difference.
That is why structured development matters. It helps employees understand not only their own role, but also how their work supports the larger business.
Growth and Ownership
As an employee-owned company, career development carries a different level of importance.
When employees grow, the company grows. When employees step into larger roles, develop new skills, and take ownership of their work, that benefits all of us.
Our ESOP gives employees a direct stake in the long-term success of the company. Development programs help support that ownership mindset by creating clear pathways for employees who want to build a future here.
Growth does not happen by accident. It happens when employees are willing to learn, when leaders are willing to invest time, and when the company creates opportunities for both.
Moving Forward
We will continue to invest in development programs that prepare employees for meaningful careers at Palmer-Donavin.
The Sales Development Program, Operations Leadership Development Program, and Class A CDL Driver Apprentice Program are three examples of how employees can grow with us. Each program supports a different part of the business, but all three reflect the same belief: our long-term success depends on the people we develop.
If you are looking for a company where you can learn the business, build your skills, and grow into new opportunities, Palmer-Donavin offers that environment.
